A experience to complete your pottery work in one day. We prepare pottery clay from Uji. First, ASAHIYAKI staff will explain about the creation of the electric potter's wheel. After that, you are free to create your own tea bowls, teacups, flower vases, etc. from 3kg of clay. This is a highly flexible experience, so there is some difficulty in molding, but you will be able to complete your own design of works.These works will be firing in the kiln by the staff.Please wait about two months for them to be fired.

Slab building experience

A experience to complete your pottery work in one day. We prepare pottery clay from Uji. Slab building experience uses a mold and a sheet of clay (tatara). First, the staff will explain about the production process, and you will use the mold you have chosen to make a tea bowl or teacup. Compared to the electric wheel, this method is easier to control as it uses a mold. You will be able to create your original and lovely works. These works will be firing in the kiln by the staff. Please wait about two months for them to be fired.

Painting experience

A experience to complete your pottery work in one day. In the painting experience, you will be able to paint pictures and letters called "Tetsu-e" in shades of black like ink painting and calligraphy. You can choose a work from plates, teacups or teabowls made by Asahiyaki craftsmen. First, our staff will explain about painting. After that, you will be able to paint a picture on the work you have chosen. After firing, the clay becomes orange or light pink like the morning sun, a characteristic of Uji's ceramic clay. Imagine the completed piece and paint pictures and letters to create your own unique works. These works will be firing in the kiln by the staff. Please wait about two months for them to be fired.

Free classes that can be booked at any time. Ticket system of 5 times in 3 months. Two sessions are offered per day, in the morning and afternoon, so it can be completed in as short as 3 days. You can choose from a variety of glazes, including hand building, potter's wheel, and painting etc. Students from Osaka, Tokyo, and even overseas come to take the free classes to learn more about pottery. Those who find it difficult to attend " Weekly Class" and " Bi-weekly Class" may move to "Free Class". Participants must be able to attend five times in three months. This is a pottery class for newcomers to the ASAHIYAKI Pottery Class.You will be working with hand-building techniques. In our class, we offer a step-by-step programme to help you master the pottery skills, as many people find it difficult to work freely at first. You can try first three of them in this class.　Since you will be working in the same place as the students in the class once a week, you can understand our classes. Special pottery workshop " Creating in Uji " Sunday, April 28

“ Creating in Uji “ is a program that is designed to be a "place" to learn more about the local culture than the usual ASAHIAYKI experience. However, it is not a difficult experience. It is open to joining from elementary school age. Of course, as a "place" for learning, joining by an adult alone is also welcome.

The first session on April 28 will be "small pot of tea tree made with Uji ceramic clay".

This experience is created by slab building.
