Special Pottery Workshop "Creating an Ōido tea bowl" on Sep 13


A special hands-on event held on the same day as Asahiyaki’s monthly tea ceremony (Tsukigama).


On this day, you can enjoy a truly unique experience — creating your
own replica of a famous tea bowl. Not only will you make a bowl, but
you’ll also learn about the history and aesthetics of chatō (tea
ceramics) through a short lecture.


This time, participants will create an “Ōido Tea Bowl”, a
masterpiece of Goryeo Tea Bowl. This famous tea bowl is said to
symbolize “Wabi.” Designated as a National Treasure, the
“Kizaemon” is highly regarded among extant Ōido tea bowls for its
majestic and powerful form.

As a special gift, all participants will receive a ticket to the same
day’s Tsukigama tea gathering. Please enjoy the tea ceremony at your own pace until around 3:00 p.m.

Date & Time: Sunday, September 13 Meet at Asahiyaki Shop & Gallery at 10:00
am
Capacity: 12 participants
Fee: ¥7,700 (Pottery Experience includes foot finishing, glazing, and
firing by us ＋ Tea Ceremony)

10：00  am  Meeting at ASAHIYAKI Pottery shop & gallery
10：15  am  Explanation of making tea bowl by coiling with hand
building wheel (For about 30 minutes)
Actual production (For about 2 hours)
12：30  pm  End time of the pottery experience

After the experience, go to the tea room “Kashōan” on the 2nd
floor of Fukujuen Uji Tea Workshop.

14 : 00  pm - 14 : 30  pm  End time of the tea ceremony

Although the workshop is held only for one day, participants who wish to continue learning about the finishing process are welcome to join a later free class.
