Futaoki"Lid Rest" Geppaku overglaze ,Hosai XVI

Hosai XVI

I think that the lid rest is a kind of seasoning that adds a spice to the tea ceremony room. Although small enough to fit in the palm of the hand, a good lid rest always catches the eye during a tea ceremony or when it is displayed on a shelf. This lid rest is octagonal, with eight sides, but each side is of a different size. By not chamfering evenly, and by pouring white and Geppaku glaze over it, as well as by the scarlet colour produced by firing in a climbing kiln, I made it so as to show various expressions when it is slightly turned to the different direction.
The tea masters can change its face side according to what they want to show to the guests, and the guests will enjoy the different appearance of the lid rest when they see it displayed on the shelf during the tea ceremony. I believe it will be a very quaint lid rest
