Guinomi ” Sake cup", Geppaku , Hosai XVI

Hosai XVI

Geppaku glaze develops its attractive color when it is placed in the higher temperature part of the kiln, which is in front of the fire, but the way it melts and its color differs depending on whether it is placed in the lower or higher part of the shelf. In this sake cup, I am conscious of making the best use of the color of the base material, and I aim to create a piece that melts the glaze well on the higher shelf in the kiln, where the temperature is much higher. As the temperature rises and the glaze melts better, the glaze at the top of the cup will drip to the bottom. At the top, the glaze inevitably becomes thinner and more transparent, and the light blue color becomes almost imperceptible. f only Geppaku glaze is applied to the base without white clay, the color will be like a light green or gray depending on the color of the base. As the glaze gradually drips from there and becomes thicker, the light blue color becomes darker, and at the bottom, where the glaze has accumulated, the color becomes especially deep. The penetration and the gradation that changes from the top to the bottom of Geppaku glaze. Glaze puddle on the lower part of the outside.

I hope you will take the time to savor these expressions while enjoying your favorite sake.
