When making a small, decorative item like incense container, the context of the work is important as well as the beauty and fun of the work. The motif of this work is Shibune. Shibune is a small boat that carries brush woods, a tradition of the Uji River that flows in front of Asahiyaki. It has been read in poetry and drawn in pictures since ancient times. The incense container “Shibune” that is made by the first generation of Asahiyaki, is stored in Byodo-in Temple. In other words, Shibune is a very important motif for us. I also took great care of this context, and made “Shibune” as the first incense container after inheriting the name Hosai from former generation master.
