Some of the tea bowls called "Totoya" originally from Korea have a unique expression on the foot called "Chirimen Jiwa wrinkles” .
Innumerable fine wrinkles of the clay like reticulation pattern on the kimono are rough and rugged, which impression is very attractive with strength and simplicity. It's technically difficult to intentionally create that look. There are three important points in shaving work: to choose the right tools, to control the dryness (softness) of the clay, the amount of force to press the plane.
While aiming to make Totoya's tea bowl, I came to create a tea bowl with new atmosphere that makes the best use of Chirimen wrinkles. Applying the fine wrinkles not only on the foot, but around the mouth edge, I made the Chawan which upper part is covered with glaze on the wrinkles. I am very satisfied with the balanced shape, its attractive expression and an elegant finish, not too powerful.
