Hosai XVI

I use the Japanese pottery technique called "Chirimen-jiwa ", or crepe wrinkles, at the bottom of this tea bowl. The technique is very delicate and difficult, the effect that creates a unique texture and emphasizes on the light shade is extremely great. When we appreciate a tea bowl, we need not only something to see in your eyes, but also something to touch with your hands. The "Chirimen-jiwa" expression makes the feeling more enjoyable and impressive. Both my father and grandfather have used this technique, but it was so difficult to master the method. I worked hard and finally got to learn from the different way with my father and grandfather. “Kase” tea bowl introduced this month is a fine and well-balanced work with contrast between the natural yet gorgeous atmosphere at the top and the primitive and powerful expression of crepe wrinkles at the bottom.
