A special hands-on event held on the same day as Asahiyaki’s monthly tea ceremony (Tsukigama).
On this day, you can enjoy a truly unique experience — creating your own replica of a famous tea bowl.
Not only will you make a bowl, but you’ll also learn about the history and aesthetics of chatō (tea ceramics) through a short lecture.
This time, participants will create a Setoguro tea bowl, known for its deep, lustrous black surface.
Its charm lies in the countless herame (spatula marks) circling the outer wall and its unrefined, spontaneous foot.
The distinctive yuzu-hada (citron-skin texture) adds to its appeal.
Schedule:
10:15 – Move to the studio → Introduction to tea bowl making (about 30 min)
11:00 – Hands-on creation (about 2 hours)
12:30 – After finishing, enjoy a tea ceremony at “Kashoan,” the tearoom on the 2nd floor of Fukujuen Ujicha Kobo.
Tea host: Senki Yamamoto, Dainihon Chado Gakkai
Dismissal around 14:00–14:30
Although the workshop is held only for one day, participants who wish to continue learning about the finishing process are welcome to join a later free class.
As a special gift, all participants will receive a ticket to the same day’s Tsukigama tea gathering.
Please enjoy the tea ceremony at your own pace until around 3:00 p.m.
Please contact us via the inquiry form, stating “Participation in Uji Tea Gathering & Pottery Experience,” and include your name and the number of participants.
