Chawan Geppaku ,Overglaze gold

十六世豊斎作

The technique called gold painted is very gorgeous and attractive. However, I had an impression that gold was too gorgeous for my work. Therefore it was a big challenge for me to take it into my works. Gold painted technique generally have been using in the Japanese traditional works as drawing pictures and patterns. I don’t use it as they are, I was thinking the gold to use in the tea bowl as a material like glaze and clay, and how to harmonize them. As a result, I could show the evolution of a new work in which bright Geppaku glaze, primitive clay and gold are in harmony.
