Starting July 5 and until July 11, join us in Kyoto for a unique cultural experience! Explore the art of Asahiyaki pottery and the exquisite taste of Horii Shichimeien's Uji tea at the Hyatt Regency Kyoto.
Details
An exhibition and pop-up sale featuring Asahiyaki pottery and Horii Shichimeien tea will be held at the Hyatt Regency Kyoto. Asahiyaki, with a 400-year history and now in its 16th generation, has been producing pottery to complement Uji tea. Horii Shichimeien, established in 1877, prepares Uji tea using traditional methods passed down through generations. Uji tea is celebrated for its deep flavor and refreshing aroma.
Uji tea, produced in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture, has a rich history rooted in its unique soil and topography. The cultivation of Uji tea began in the Kamakura period (1185-1333), and by the early 13th century, it had become one of Japan's top tea brands.
As part of the exhibition, Asahiyaki will showcase new tea utensils, including teacups, teapots, trays, saucers, Uji matcha (powdered green tea), and freshly brewed sencha (green tea). Additionally, there will be tasting workshops, tea ceremonies, and hands-on experiences in making matcha.

Asahiyaki Ware
Asahiyaki pottery was founded in Uji about 400 years ago and has been operated continuously from the first to the current 16th generation. Known for its tea utensils, such as teacups with colors reminiscent of the morning sun and handle-less teapots called "Hohin" that enhance the flavor of Uji tea, Asahiyaki has adapted to the times while maintaining its traditional craftsmanship.
Horii Shichimeien
Since its founding in 1877, Horii Shichimeien has meticulously produced Uji tea using time-honored methods. During the Muromachi period (1336-1573), the shogun designated seven tea gardens as exceptional, and today, the Okunoyama tea garden is the only one that still remains.
